The more I read, the more I'm loving this site! This was a book I had seen and thought it looked okay, but not like something I would refer to often. You've pointed out all the great parts and now this *definitely* looks like something deserving of a shot on my bookshelf! Thanks!

[...] Continuous Cables: An Exploration of Knitted Cable Knots, Rings, Swirls, and Curlicues, by Melissa Leapman–considering how good her first one was, that seems awfully promising. Review is up HERE. [...]

@Klara--that's actually a tricky question because, Volume 3 is the only Walker collection I DON'T have. (I know, I don't understand how that happened, either.)

As to Viking Knits? I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but as I recall, that covers more about the reasons for the designs of the cables, their historical perspective, rather than the bare technique of them. I haven't flipped through it in a while, though, so...

For this one, the chapter on the hows of closed-ring cables is fantastic, and the stitch-dictionary at the back is a great collection. Even if you didn't like the rest of the designs, those two elements are unique enough to at least warrant a look, I think!

Thank you for your reviews. This is a great site. I have wanted to look at this book myself, but have not seen it in the stores (LYS or book stores). I may need to add this to my Amazon wishlist!

Hi,

Guess now's the moment to ask: How does the second chapter (or the stitch dictionary) compare to the Third Walker Treasury (which has quite a lot of closed-ring designs) and Lavold's Viking Patterns for Knitting (ditto)?

The patterns would be original, but as I positively hate following patterns... Is the rest of the book worth the price?

Thanks for your reviews! Klara
