The In-Depth Look:

In the interests of full-disclosure, the first thing you need to know about this book is that the author was foolish, er, NICE enough to use one of my photographs in it. (A picture of a friend’s bunny since I obviously don’t have one of my own.)

That said, the second thing you need to know is that I don’t know anything about raising rabbits. (Dogs, yes; rabbits, no.)

Believe it or not, that makes me the perfect audience for this book, because you can well believe that I WOULD be nervous if I suddenly found myself the owner of an angora rabbit. Which is exactly the point. The author states in the introduction that, “I wrote this guidebook to provide you with the information that I would have wanted to have myself, on that very first day I brought Winston home.”

This is a short and sweet kind of book–not a big tome meant to sit on your shelf and look important. It’s more the kind of small book you can carry around and flip through as questions arise. If it gets nibbed around the edges, or worn down through constant use, you get the feeling that that’s exactly what SHOULD happen. It’s got a ton of good information for everything from how to pick the right bunny for you to where to house him, how to feed him, how to harvest his fur, and what to do with it once it’s off the rabbit. Lots of information and plenty of black-and-white illustrations, and easy to carry around.

Perfect, really–because it leaves you lots of time to play with your new rabbit.
